The Open Source Community Day, held on 23–24 September in Madrid, brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to discuss the future of open source, AI development, and standardization in Europe.
Co-organised by the Eclipse Foundation—a key partner of MOSAICO—and EUCloudEdgeIoT, the event served as a vibrant platform for collaboration across the European open-source ecosystem.
A milestone for MOSAICO
Among the sessions that shaped the two-day programme, one highlight for MOSAICO was the presentation delivered by our partner Dr. Antonio García Domínguez, Senior Lecturer at the University of York and partner in the project.
During his talk, Dr. García Domínguez introduced the vision behind MOSAICO: a new paradigm in software engineering where human developers collaborate seamlessly and ethically with AI agents. He showcased how MOSAICO is building a repository of AI agents designed for software engineering tasks—annotated, measurable, and discoverable through capabilities and quality KPIs.
This approach aims to empower developers with transparent, evidence-based tools rather than black-box systems, reinforcing the project’s focus on trust, reproducibility, and responsible AI adoption.
Strengthening Europe’s open innovation landscape
Beyond MOSAICO’s contribution, the Open Source Community Day offered space for strategic discussions with representatives from the European Commission, research institutions, industry experts, and open-source communities.
Sessions addressed critical topics such as:
- the role of open source in Europe’s digital autonomy,
- the need for interoperable and trustworthy AI systems,
- the challenges of standardisation across cloud-edge-IoT ecosystems,
- and the importance of community-driven innovation.
For MOSAICO, the event reaffirmed the importance of collaborative ecosystems in shaping the next generation of AI-powered software engineering tools. It also underscored the project’s alignment with European priorities on openness, transparency, and technological sovereignty.
Looking ahead
Participating in the Open Source Community Day strengthened MOSAICO’s commitment to contributing to a thriving open-source landscape in Europe.
The insights gathered in Madrid will support the project’s ongoing efforts to build a robust, ethical, and developer-centric framework for human–AI collaboration.
MOSAICO is proud to be part of the collective movement driving forward Europe’s technological future — one built on openness, community, and responsible innovation.
